HEBER, Utah — One person is dead in a crash involving four vehicles that has closed U.S. Highway 40 in both directions.
According to Cameron Roden with Utah Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at 10:55 a.m. near milepost 13, which is near the intersection with State route 32 just north of Heber City.
A white Ford F150 was traveling eastbound on US-40 at the intersection of State route 32 and River Road. The traffic light was red, but according to witnesses at the scene, the driver of the Ford appeared to have “lost consciousness” before driving head on into a Dodge Ram pickup stopped at the red light in the westbound lanes.
The Dodge Ram was pushed into a black BMW that was also stopped at the light, which was pushed into another truck waiting at the light.
The driver of the Ford was killed and another person was in serious condition.
“A medical episode is being investigated as a possible contributor to the crash,” UHP said. “All lanes of travel were opened at 13:45 hours.”
